Walking For A Cause- Susan G. Komen Atlanta
This post is sponsored. I’m participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® Atlanta. All opinions are my own.
Let me start by saying how excited I am to have been selected to participate in the Atlanta Susan G. Komen 3-Day®. How awesome is that? They could have literally selected from countless amazing influencers and I am truly blessed to have been selected for Atlanta. Imagine the joy that I felt when I was commissioned to this once in a lifetime opportunity! Quite naturally my answer was Yes! I’ve been actively donating for years and have participated in a few events but nothing to this caliber. Having the opportunity to participate means the world to me and my walk will be in honor of my aunt Gwen whom I never had the opportunity to meet because she passed away at such a young age from Breast Cancer. The idea of spending 3 days with fellow amazing women for a specific cause…To End Breast Cancer Forever is the perfect way to honor her legacy.
ABOUT THE 3 DAY
The three-day, 60-mile walk where women come together to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. In 2016, Susan G. Komen® announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why we’re walking, and why we’re raise money—to make that goal a reality. When you see the color PINK you automatically think of Susan G. Komen®. Pink is more than just a color; it represents the impact that each person is making in the fight against breast cancer. This impact makes you More Than Pink™. Over the past 14 years and 156 events, the money we’ve raised has been used to help save lives, support community programs, and make huge strides in breast cancer research.
LITTLE KEY FACTS:
- It’s a 60-mile walk over the course of three days.
- The route is fully supported by an experienced crew who will keep you safe and comfortable (and cheer you on like a rock star!). Side Note: I’M TOTALLY A ROCK STAR!
- For two nights, you’ll camp together in the Komen 3-Day community.
- You’ll raise $2,300 to help end breast cancer. It’s a big commitment, but to end breast cancer, we have to act boldly. It’s time to step up and do the most you can do—for this mission, for those you love and for yourself.
Here’s where I need your help! My upcoming walk in October is 60 miles. Yes! I say 60 but the great news is that it’s over a period of three days. I will be participating in the Atlanta event October 13-15. Exciting Right? Each day I will be walking an average of 20 miles and Glamping out in a super cute PINK tent (y’all know pink is my favorite color!) Listen! Over the past 14 years and 156 events more than $820 million dollars has been raised and I’m challenging all of my friends, family and readers to help me raise $2300. Click HERE to DONATE! I started training a few days ago. Yes! I’m super late but the great thing is that I normally walk about 15,000 steps which is equivalent to 7.5 miles so that’s half way right? I’m starting to increase my walking from morning and evening to morning, afternoons, evening and mini breaks to slowly build myself up. Keep in mind that I work out 5 days a week at the gym along with 2 hours of yoga practice at home. I will say that the treadmill has been very instrumental in helping with getting my legs in practice. Although the sound of walking may seem easy it’s very important that you start training immediately. Like right now as you read this post! Here are few helpful tips:
- Go on the Susan G. Komen website or Facebook and find you a few coaches. Trust me they are going to be your motivators during your training and walk.
- Search out for local training session near you. Check out 16-week and 24-week training. Team work makes the Dream Work!
- Wear comfortable workout apparel.
- Stay HYDRATED!!! H2O is your BFF!
My goal this week is to find at least 4 fellow walkers, 2 of which are newbies like myself and 2 that are oldies so that I can step up my training game. I’m excited to see how the newbies training compares to the oldies. For me this is just going to be one of those highlights in my life that I can look back on and say “HEY I DID THAT!
Now this is where it gets a little tricky for me. I have to make sure that I pack every essential needed to glamp away from home for 3 Days! Seriously! I’m sure that this is every woman’s concern but what I can tell you is that I will packing everything in my adorable duffel bag that can be found HERE. I bet you’re wondering what’s going to be in my bag right? Well it will include my toiletries all of which will probably be pink right down to my toilet tissue. LOL! Lip balm, shorts, journal, extra cell chargers, DSLR camera and of course my cute Susan G. Komen T-shirt and Cap. You’re just going to have to follow me on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook for sneak peeks and TOP SECRET Updates on what I’m packing but here’s a few essentials that are going!
