Barneys New York Launches Enchanted Holiday Windows
On Friday in New York, Barneys New York, luxury retailer unveiled their holiday window and façade of Madison Avenue which displayed a BAZ DAZZLED wonderland, a collaboration with world-renown writer, director & producer Baz Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin. Shoppers are accustomed to Barneys New York sophisticated window displays and the BAZ DAZZLED displays showcase a twist between Design and Theatre. The unveiling of the BAZ DAZZLED showcases the iconic visual language of Luhrmann’s award-winning work in film with the legendary wit entwined with Barneys New York. Martin, the four-time Oscar-winning costume designer along with the Barneys New York team led by Creative Director Dennis Freedman took the traditional holiday themes to a whimsical world of fantastic characters, enchanted forests and a mixture of luxurious, metallic textures.
To ensure that the attendees received the full ambiance of the unveiling the street was fully transformed into an interactive experience, with an extravagant theatrical performance encompassing various elements from the BAZ DAZZLED motif. How awesome is that? Its like stepping into an enchanted book or fantasy.
The unveiling surrounded a live performance of remixed holiday carols that were featured in the windows along with a modern dance performance by a troupe of men and women which exploded on the street, followed by an amazing team of figure skaters performing. To add to the performance both the Solar & Luna Queen emerged onto the Juliet balconies located on the second floor for a grand appearance. Costumes for the characters in the BAZ DAZZLED world have been created by designer Zaldy in collaboration with Oscar-winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin. All performance elements featured in the windows were directed in collaboration with Luhrmann, Martin, Barneys New York, and Andrew Katz.
