Hey Love Bugs! My youngest son, Mario and I were the guest of this years Cirque de Soleil for another year and this year was no exception. My son and I were so excited to see what was in store for their latest Big Top Production, VOLTA.
About Volta:
Energetic, urban and contemporary, VOLTA is a captivating voyage of discovery that showcases never-before-seen under the Big Top acrobatics in a visually striking world. Driven by a stirring melodic score and inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of street sports, VOLTA is about finding yourself and unveiling your personal powers. VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and recognizing one’s own power to make it possible. Ultimate freedom comes with self-acceptance, and with the liberation of the judgement of others.
Waz is a gameshow contestant that has lost touch with himself. He’s ashamed of who he is because of his difference. Follow him as he enters the show in search of fame, thinking that this will bring him love and acceptance from others. What he will find is something else: that fame is not the answer. If fame doesn’t provide freedom and acceptance, then what does? During the show the pondering question was Will Waz reconnect with his true self? Will be accept that he’s unique yet different?
My son and I definitely appreciated the fact that the creators of VOLTA added a little street sports into this years act. As a mom of all boys theres nothing like watching the world of BMX under the BIG TOP! I’m sure that everyone enjoyed the skit whether they’re a fan of street sports or not! The live action amongst them was simply amazing and definitely one thats indescribable unless your watching it first hand. My son definitely enjoyed seeing them sore through the air like eagles soaring.
There were brief intermissions followed by this funny dude. The scene with the dysfunctional washing machine was perhaps my favorite. I have absolutely no idea exactly what he was saying because its sounded like another language but watching his body language was enough to keep the audience entertained.
The show was simply amazing. I have attended every year for the past 3-4 years and every year it gets better and better. The acts, costumes, story lines, skits and illusion have become better and better over the years. I highly recommend that you add this amazing experience to your list of things to do this Fall and Winter.
