The past month I was honored to help support the “Shaun The Sheep Flock” Instagram Campaign and it was so much fun creating artwork with the kids and helping to promote the brand. The kids were excited to have the opportunity to receive an invitation to a local screening. Immediately I noticed that the Farmer as well as the other adults were all talking but there were no words coming out. My initial opinion was that the movie was going to be a bit different. In fact it was, the film is a 84-minute story without words. Now many of you many think that this is a bad thing but it’s not! Sometimes the best things are left unsaid.
The movie started off with the star of the film, “Shaun The Sheep” reading a sign on a bus that gave him the idea of taking a day off so he decided that the other sheep along with himself should also do the same thing. When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets way more action than he bargained for. A mix up with the Farmer caravan, and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it’s up to Shaun and his flock to return everyone safely to their home.
Shaun The Sheep comes up with a smart idea to trick the Farmer into thinking its night so that he would sleep which would mean that they could get one day off from working their normal routine. Needless to say that the idea back fires and leads the entire crew on an adventure that none of them would imagine. There is definitely loads of communication amongst the characters but everything is understood through gestures which was so amazing to me.
The Sheep along with Shaun & The Dog all end up in the Big City. The animals were so used to running freely on their farm it became a new experience to have to disguise themselves and act like humans. The movie continues with laughter, excitement mixed with a few, oh’s & awes. In my opinion“Shaun the Sheep Movie,” is an amazing wordless story from the stop-motion animation studio Aardman Animations, who is also known for the “Wallace & Gromit” & “Chicken Run franchise that we have all come to love and enjoy. I don’t want to spoil the movie with anymore spoilers just make sure that you head to your local theater on August 5th.
