Hey Darlings! Happy New Year! I’m starting the year off with my first Hidden Gem of 2020. I recently visited The Historic Green Manor Restaurant.
History
In 1919, a handsome doctor presented the keys of a stately mansion to his new bride. Dr. Green moved his lovely bride Miss Johnnie Hobgood, daughter of Dr. Lewis Martin and Lula Palmer Hobgood, a very prominent family from Fairburn, into their new home. He used the front room for his office, and his patients waited on the front porch on swings and rocking chairs. He continued his practice here until shortly before his death in 1947. Mrs. Green continued to live there until her death in February, 1984 at the ago of 90.
The house has been maintained exactly as it was originally built, except that a kitchen has been added where the back porch stood. Part of the wrap around porch was enclosed, and a large banquet room, known as the Magnolia Room, was built on to provide additional seating. During the renovation of the house that original fireplace dating back to 1800 was found in the basement, and cannon balls from the Civil War have also been recovered on the property.
The Historic Green Manor Restaurant officially opened for business on November 5, 1990, with the four main downstairs rooms and has continued to add additional dining space throughout the years. The seating capacity is now 250 guest,
My Experience
The moment that we arrived on the property there was a sense of having the ability to see strange figures in the windows like in the horror movies. No I didn’t see any but the entire feel of the grounds is definitely one that interacts with us sensitive people. Walking up to the Mansion gives off Southern Hospitality. Being a Georgia Peach I can appreciate the Southern Decor and Culture for older homes after all living in Savannah my entire childhood I definitely had my fair share of enjoying and touring the plethora of homes located there that have become famous sight seeing spots.
I loved the rocking chairs and old school swing located on the porch. I couldn’t resist the camera opt on it as we made our way into the restaurant. As you walk to the front door it would be robbery to not take a few steps back and enjoy a wide view of the front of the mansion. It’s definitely a beauty. Upon walking inside we were greeted and seated. I took that moment to walk the various rooms and bask in the vintage finds. There are six rooms to enjoy: The Doll Room, The Hat Room, The Cranberry Room, The Sir Albert Room, The Magnolia Room and The Southern Veranda.
I enjoyed touring eat one and as my mini tour came to an end I headed to the wrap around porch also known as the Magnolia room to join my dining party and prepare to try their buffet for the first time. Did I mention that the food was so good! Well it was!
There’s also a lounge!

The mansion, Green Manor, still stands with its historic architecture carefully restored. Fitted with wide verandas, beveled glass doors, beautiful chandeliers and a dark magnificent mahogany staircase. Crossing its threshold is returning to the Old South of bygone days. So pull up a rocking chair on Green Manors front porch, this might just be your next great Georgia experience. I definitely was mine! Enjoy this sneak peek video inside the Historical Green Manor.
