There are dozens of outdoor adventures that travelers can enjoy within an hour or so of Greenville, S.C., a charming city of 70,000 that, among a long list of recent superlatives, was named #1 Micro-City of the Future in the Western Hemisphere (for cities with a population under 100,000).
But perhaps more impressive is what happens right outside the hotel’s doors. We hear a lot about places that are (sometimes dubiously) said to be “right in the heart of the action.” In the case of Aloft Greenville Downtown, this turns out to be absolutely true.
Aloft is the only hotel in ONE Greenville, a five-year-old mixed-use hub in the “in the center of everything” that’s home to an eclectic array of restaurants, bars and shopping, as well as offices. The hotel’s next door neighbors are Basil Thai restaurant to the north and Caviar & Bananas, a gourmet market/cafe, to the south.
Venture just a little farther out and you’ll encounter a plethora of restaurants that are eclectic, quirky, local — and delicious. Nearby is the Liberty Bridge, a 345-foot curved bridge held aloft by a single suspension cable — the only one of its kind in the U.S. The Upcountry History Museum is a half mile away. The Greenville Zoo is a one-mile walk. You’ll encounter 70 works of public art on your walking adventure. Hike or bike the 22-mile Swamp Rabbit Trail system that runs along the Reedy River; its southernmost terminus is right at the Aloft. We could go on and on, but you get the picture. Talk about walkability.
Of course, the action also takes place in the hotel. The W XYZ Bar, a cozy place that features live music, signature cocktails and light bites, has become a go-to hangout for visitors and locals alike.
Downtown Greenville pops with color, especially during autumn, and the four-year-old Aloft keeps pace — from the vibrant, modern lobby to the soothing, blue-patterned carpets in the guestrooms.
Indeed, Aloft Downtown Greenville is right in the heart of a lot of very cool stuff.
