Upscale Magazine jump started their Blogger/Media Private Dinner series by inviting Bloggers & Media to Moroccan Experience Private Dinner. The private dinner was hosted at Imperial Fez an Authentic Moroccan Cuisine restaurant. Imperial Fez provides fresh and delicious International Cuisine professionally presented with a high level of service from beginning to end.
We were greeted by owner, Chef Rafih Benjelloun who was born in Fez, Morocco. Benjelloun studied the arts throughout Western Europe and in San Francisco. His career as a restaurateur at a Moroccan restaurant in San Francisco called Mamounia. His experience later led him to open several Moroccan restaurants throughout Colorado before moving to Atlanta and opening Imperial Fez. Imperial Fez has become recognized by media and food critics around the world. Benjelloun spoke to the group about his Moroccan culture and the importance of using all six senses while enjoying the evenings cuisine. We were also informed of the Moroccan Tradition of eating without utensils which is where your sixth sense of discernment comes into play. This allows you to savor your meal authentically.
The Media was treated to an amazing five-course dinner. The server started out authentic evening by cleansing our hands with orange blossom water and presenting us with a white hand towel to lay across our left shoulder.
Our meal begin with the tasting of what they considered pickles which appeared to be pickled carrots and banana peppers. They were actually good. I’m not a fan of carrots but these were good. Then we were served the Harira soup which is a tomato based Moroccan soup made with lentils, chicken peas, onion, rice and herbs.
Upon finishing our soup we enjoyed some Moroccan Salad which was so delicious. Ya Salam!
Look at all of the delicious ingredients that make up the salad and can I tell you that it was freaking awesome! We were served Bastella for our appetizer. The Bastella was everything! It’s a flaky pie that’s both flaky and savory. It’s stuffed with a spice meat, eggs, toasted almonds, cinnamon and sugar. Delish!
The main course consisted of Lamb Tajine Morozia, baked with Rass El Hanut (32 Aromatic Spices Prepared By The Chef) Garnished with onions, raisins & roasted almonds.
Our main course also included Baked Tilapia Charmoula Sauce, Honey Apricot Almonds & Sesame Chicken and Couscous. Yummy right?
The meal was simply amazing! We finished the evening with a fruit dessert along with mint tea. We had our hands cleansed again and then they were drizzled with rosewater as we were instructed to smell the rosewater and make a wish before enjoying our mint tea.
The evening was filled with amazing food and company. Special Thanks to Mariellen, the amazing Upscale Magazine staff and Imperial Fez for a memorable evening!
Shukran Bezzef Imperial Fez!
