As many of you may know that I traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica on last weekend for a private VIP Beachside Birthday Celebration with Stepsevents. As the Social Media Consultant I am responsible for the social media and assisting with events as they are assigned. This particular event was a beachside event that included a star-studded mini concert. Ever been to an actual sound check? You know the sound checks that take place before the millions of spectators race into the coliseum and arenas to see their favorite artist perform.
The day of the event was a beautiful day after all its Jamaica Mon! We all worked diligently to ensure that the set up was a huge success. As the time began to pass the band began to take turns for their sound checks. This was my very first time at an actual sound check and what an experience. It was definitely not what I expected and not in a bad way. There is so much that goes into ensuring that exactly everything is perfect. Plus each performer had their individual band so that made a difference as well so that meant each band had to get the sound just right. Oh what excitement! I’m sure the set-up crew had a ball watching each performer and band strategically prepare for the night’s performance just as much as I did. I truly enjoy seeing the process come together in fact it has been something that I have enjoyed since I was a child.
The bands are serious during their sound checks and often times they may crack a joke and make a funny gesture and the whole crew starts to laugh including the performer. The performer always serves as the leader and what fascinated me the most was when Keith Sweat was ensuring that his sound check was correct he naturally would cue a band member to change the tone or key on the keyboard or guitar. Amazing right? It was pretty darn interesting.
Ha! There you have it a sneak peek inside an actual sound check! Stay tuned for my next sound check adventure coming soon to your computer screen.
