ARE YOU READY TO LAUNCH YOUR CAREER BEHIND THE SCENES AND THINK OUTSIDE THE SALON?
Dolls! This past weekend here in Atlanta we had a bit of a mini snow storm that decided to make its way to us Southerners in Georgia and you already know that the city will shut down. Listen the snow didn’t stop Beauty Professionals from all over making their way to Demi Dixon’s “From The Salon To Behind The Scenes. In case you’re not familiar with Demi, she’s one of the pioneers in the Beauty Industry that has been instrumental in paving the way for the masses of people in the beauty industry to work behind the scenes. You see in her early twenties ran her own salon, taught education classes and launched her business behind the scenes. Demi is the creator of From Behind the Scenes, an educational platform for those who aspire to take their beauty profession beyond the salon chair. She is also the owner of Demi Bella Beauty Company.
The event took place at Jon’ Ric Luxury Salon located at 200 Peachtree Street here in Atlanta. Did I mention that its black owned and fabulous. You’ve had plenty of sneak peeks on reality shows like The Real House Wives of Atlanta and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. Trust me the salon is freaking beautiful and they have taken LUXURY UP A FEW NOTCHES!
Ya’ll keep in mind that my ties are heavy and strong in the hair industry, after all everyone knows how my father was a pioneer in paving the way for natural hair care brands to enter mainstream markets but this is another side of industry that I didn’t have access to. Keep in mind if you have a product idea, product that needs to be manufactured or perhaps you need assist with branding and marketing then I’M DEFINITELY YOUR GIRL!
This past weekend I had the opportunity to sit back, observe and learn from some amazing beauty experts. Just to give you a taste of the panel….think Syretta Bell, Joyce Gillard and Marcus Harvey. Syretta Bell is as cut and dry as they come! Listen this sister is all about running a well oiled business. You may know her from Marvel, Number 1 Box Office hits and television shows but many now recognize her from her current role as the Head of Makeup for Tyler Perry Studios.
Joyce Gillard, founder of iSAFE TV & Film is an advocate for magnifying safety on the set. iSAFE was birthed after the death of Sarah Jones on the set of Midnight Rider where she was killed by a train and Joyce was badly injured. Joyce broke into working behind the scenes by styling on the set of Run’s House. We always hear dynamic stories of how many walk into their passion but for Joyce she listened to that inner voice one evening when her body screamed for rest and that one nudge launched her behind the scenes to style some of the most notable celebrities.
Marcus Harvey, a celebrity barber and founder of BarberStar Enterprise, LLC and Musa Lair Grooming Gallery, a premiere sought out luxury barber and grooming professional in the industry, Harvey mastered the art of both barbering and styling hair which lead him to work within the Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel, NBA, Comedy, Movies and Television.
The class will guide you through how to correctly complete applications, standard agreements, I-9 & W-9 forms, Crew Time Cards, Essentials for your Beauty Kit and how to properly read a Crew Call Sheet. If you’re in the beauty industry and have the desire to start working behind the scenes then I highly recommend that you sign up for her upcoming class that’s taking place during the February Bronner Brothers Show.
