This past weekend (June 24, 2021) I had the pleasure of attending Hattie Marie’s grand opening of their third location. I was originally introduced to the brand a few years ago when I saw massive engaging post all over social media particularly Instagram about their delicious BBQ. Being a true Southern Belle I am always up for great BBQ. Throughout my years living in the Atlanta area I have always found that it’s sometimes hit or miss. I’m happy to say that Hattie Marie’s is definitely a hit.
HATTIE MARIE’S HISTORY
Hattie Marie’s roots are in the southeast Texas town of Port Arthur. Hattie Marie’s roots are in the southeast Texas town of Port Arthur. Hattie Marie grew up watching her father, who was a cook on a merchant sea vessel, entertain and fellowship through cooking. She decided to share her culinary talents and opened her bakery/catering service in the late 80’s. Her son and present CEO, Willie Griggie followed in his mother’s footsteps carrying on his family tradition by opening the first Hattie Marie’s in College Park, Ga in 2017, paying homage to his mother and grandfather.
Hattie Marie’s, a Texas Style BBQ and Cajun Kitchen restaurant located at 130 Clairemont Ave., Suite 100, Decatur, Georgia recently opened a new franchise location in the hear of Downtown Decatur Ga. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, June 24 from 1-4 PM. Franchisee Etanya Lucas stated that she has plans to open two additional Hattie Marie restaurant locations in the Atlanta area in addition to this one that will be located inside the Courtyard by Marriott in Decatur Square.
Among those in attendance for the celebratory weekend was Marlo Hampton of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Senior Pastor Jamal Harrison Bryant at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church along with Billboard Gospel Artist Isaac Carree and Todd Galberth. Media and Influencers from all over Atlanta were in attendance to test out the “Best BBQ in Atlanta”. For many this was their first experience and the rest of us it was a moment to see history be made.
The ambiance was amazing and I immediately fell in love with the new locations look. At first glance it’s apparent that the location is in the perfect spot. I also love that they decided to bring a new fresh black owned business to the area plus it’s a restaurant. When I saw the patio area it immediately gave me sexy summer vibes. The string lights, the color of the patio and the vibe there are all on point. As you enter the restaurant the design is sophisticated yet gives you southern cowboy vibes. It’s basically the best of both worlds. Ya’ll already know that the food was the BOMB! Like straight up! There ain’t another in Atlanta that can do it like Hattie Marie’s rather it’s corporate owned or franchised Mr. Willie Griggie and his beautiful wife are going to make sure that their brand reputation maintains it’s integrity. The grand opening was planned and executed by STEPS EVENT PLANNING FIRM. If you haven’t had a chance to try Hattie Marie’s here’s your chance.
