In celebration of the 10th anniversary on September 13 and 14, the Dirty Dancing Festival is welcoming special celebrity guests Stacy Widelitz, who co-wrote and performs “She’s Like the Wind” with Patrick Swayze, and Franke Previte, who wrote the award-winning theme song “I’ve Had the Time of My Life.” Appearances by Widelitz and Previte will occur throughout the weekend as they share their experiences and past-times from their involvement with the movie “Dirty Dancing“and friendship with Patrick Swayze. On Friday night before the lakeside screening of the movie, organizers and special guests will pay tribute to the festival’s 10th anniversary milestone, as well as to Patrick Swayze and how the festival continues to wage hope for the fight against pancreatic cancer.
On Saturday, festival-goers can watch Widelitz and Previte take to the main stage to perform live with the bands. In the morning, Widelitz will join the Carolina Coast Band on the keys to perform his acclaimed single “She’s Like the Wind.” Then in the afternoon, Previte, along with Broadway star Lisa Sherman, will sing his Grammy-award winning hit “I’ve Had the Time of My Life,” plus fan favorite “Hungry Eyes” with the Band of Oz, reminding us all why this is our all-time favorite movie. Throughout the day, Widelitz and Previte will participate in festival activities including a meet and greet with fans.
Get nostalgic with the lakeside screening of the movie, carry a watermelon, and take a stroll along the new Selfie Walking Tour providing attendees the chance to strike a pose with enlarged, quintessential scenes from the movie.
Proceeds raised from ticket sales and activities throughout the weekend of the Dirty Dancing Festival support the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a standing tribute to the film’s late star, Patrick Swayze, who passed away from the disease in 2009.
