We all have that one piece in our closet that we bought on impulse… because we love it and would wear it all the time. For me, this was the peplum top. On the red carpet, Emma Stone rocked her red and pink peplum dress and made the world fall in love with the classic silhouette. The flirty shape of the peplum top makes it tricky to style, so here are three simple ways you can style a peplum top in the winter and spring.
I bought my white peplum top two summers ago and have yet to wear it. I always look at the top as I rummage through my closet to find something to wear. But I never wear it and I can’t make myself put the top in to the donation pile. One of my New Year Resolutions is to donate anything I don’t wear in my closet. So in order to keep this top I have to wear it.
This first outfit is a winter look. I layered my peplum top under a fuzzy cropped cardigan for a girly casual look that is perfect for a day out with friends, a casual date, or a day at school. This fuzzy sweater is comfy and cozy, perfect for snuggling up on the sofa or staying warm in a freezing lecture hall.
The key to layering a peplum top with a sweater is keeping the sweater cropped because a cropped sweater shows off the fun, flirty peplum silhouette.
For my second look, I decided to put together an office appropriate look. I wore my white peplum top with a classic black blazer. You can wear peplum tops with any cropped jacket or blazer. A blazer instantly polishes up this girly look, making it perfect for a day at the office.
These last two outfits are perfect for spring weather when it’s chilly in the morning and warm in the afternoon because you can easily take the cardigan or blazer off when the temperature starts rising. For the winter, you can pair a wool blazer or thick knit cardigan with your peplum top. The peplum top is seriously a versatile piece that flatters almost all body shapes.
A peplum top is a great statement piece for a night out or a casual Sunday brunch. Those were three ways you can style a peplum top this winter and spring. Which look would you rock this season?
